Executive Editor Melissa Hanna's recent column on the Banner-Herald's quest for reinvention prompted me to provide some historical context that reveals change has been the constant in Athens newspaper journalism (Column, "Reinvention is newspapers' challenge," Aug. 16). What's missing today is competition.
Banner-Herald wins 11 awards
The Athens Banner-Herald won 11 first-place awards in its circulation category in the Georgia Press Association's Better Newspaper Contest, and placed second in General Excellence, the GPA's top award.
